A Life of Wanderlust

wan·der·lust
/ˈwändərˌləst/ noun: a strong desire to travel

My experience with traveling started when I was a toddler. I was born in Georgia and had moved to Germany by the time I was 2 years old. My family moved back and forth from Germany to Georgia four times, with a quick stint in California and another in South Carolina, until my junior year in high school. My dad served in the US Army for over 27 years that allowed my family to travel a lot until I was 15 years old. We moved every 3-5 years. My dad retired from the military in 1987 and we settled in Washington state. I finished high school and then met my husband my freshman year in college. After college, he played professional basketball in Europe and Asia so we spent 7 years moving between Spain, Greece, Japan, Washington state and California before settling into a home in the Bay Area. I have literally spent my whole life on a plane traveling somewhere to live or play. It is no wonder that wanderlust is deeply ingrained in my DNA.

Besides traveling the world for my dad’s job and my husband’s job, I traveled to a lot of fun places with my sisters and girlfriends for fun. I cannot remember a year in my life that I have not traveled by plane, car, train, or bus. Most of my life’s pleasure travels occurred when I was broke college student, or shortly thereafter when I was still trying to build up some wealth. I did not let a lack of money stop me from traveling and seeing the world. My finances today are vastly different than my first few years out of college, but I still utilize many of my money saving hacks that I learned along the way so that I do not spend unnecessarily on travel. Do not get me wrong, there are some things that you cannot save money on, but there are definitely hacks to help balance out the costly items you just cannot do without on a trip. I will be sharing these hacks and tips as we proceed on this journey. I truly hope that you will join me. As always, be well my friends and remember to always be true to yourself.
